Junie B.幼稚園＆小学１年生シリーズ

今回は、６才の女の子からスタートした物語、
Junie B. Jones (幼稚園シリーズ)と、

徐々に成長して小学１年になった彼女の物語、
Junie B., First Grader （１年生シリーズ）

　をご紹介します。

 

このシリーズは、最初、Junie B. Jonesちゃんが幼稚園に通うところ：６才からスタートした学園ものなのですが、第１８巻で小学１年生になって、新シリーズJunie B., Farst Graderに衣替えしたものです。

全シリーズを通して、Junie Bちゃんの視点で語られているので、英文はやさしくなっています。
ちょっとした慣用表現、熟語表現をクリアできれば、単語もやさしく、一文一文も短いので、中学３年生でも、楽しく読み進められるシリーズと思います。

今回は、前置きはカットして、さっそく、おしゃまなJunie B. Jonesちゃんの活躍を、のぞいてみましょう。

I’m almost six years old.
Almost six is when you get to go to Kindergarten.Kindergaten is where you go to meet new friends and not watch TV.
My kindergarten is the afternoon kind.
Today was my first day of school. I’d been to my room before , though. Last week Mother took me there to meet my teacher.

It was called Meet the Teacher Day. My teacher was decorating the bulletin board with the letters of alphabet.
" I already know all of those letters," i said." I can sing them.Except I don't feel like it right now."

The B stand for Beatrice:このB は Beatrice に拠っている
I just like B and That’s all：私はただBが好き、そういうことなの。
is when～ ：～の時である、
Kindergarten：幼稚園
the afternoon kind：午後からゆく種類の
I’d been to my room before、though：私は以前に私の教室に来たことがある、けれども。
Mother took me there to meet my teacher：母が私をそこへ連れてきた/
先生に合わせるために、
bulletin board：壁に備え付けの黒板や掲示板、
letters of alphabet：アルファベットABC・・・の文字、
Except I don't feel like it right now：今は、歌いたいとは思わないが。

I go to kidergarten.My room is named Room Nine. There are lots of rules in that place.
Like no shouting.
And no running in the hall.
And no butting the other children in the stomach with your head.

My teacher’s name is Mrs.
She has anther name too. But I just like Mrs. And that’s all.
Last week Mrs. Clapped her hands together. Then she made a ‘nouncement to us.
A ‘nouncement is school word for telling us something very important.
“ Boys and Girls.May I have your attention plese?”she said.” Today is going to be a special day in Room Nine. We are going to be talking about different careers you can have when you grow up.”

‘nouncement：anouncement お知らせ・発表
May I have your attention plese：こちらに注目してもらっていいかな、
be going to～：～するつもり、～予定である、～になる
talking about different careers you can have when you grow up：はなし合う/いろいろな異なる職業について/貴方達がつくことのできる/貴方達が大人になった時に→貴方達が大人になったときにつくことのできるいろいろな職業についてはなし合う、

Dear first-grade journal,
Yesterday was the first day of school. It is new here.
Today my teacher handed out these journals. He is making us write in these dump things. Only I don’t even know what to write.

dump things：くだらない・ばかばかしいこと→journals のことを指している

I put down my pencil. And I looked at what I wrote.
I did a sigh.
“ I would　like to go home now, “ I said to just myself.
“Shh! “ said a girl named May.” I’m still trying to do my work.
May sits next to me in the back of the room.
I do not actually care for that girl.

Just then,my teacher stood up at his desk.His mustache smiled real friendly.
“ Okay, boys and girls. You can stop writing now,” he said. ” As I told you earlier, we will be working in our jounals quite often this year. In fact, it won’t be long until your journal starts feeling like an old friend.”
I rolled my eyes at the ceiling.

what I wrote:いったい私が何を書いたのかを
sigh：ためいき、
I said to just myself：独り言を言った、
I do not actually care for that girl:実際はその子のことを大して気にかけていないのだけれども。
mustache：ひげ、口ヒゲ
As I told you earlier：以前（前）にも言ったように、
I rolled my eyes at the ceiling：天井を向いて目を回した→天を仰いだ、

ちなみに、このジャーナルは、Junie B.,First Graderでは、 ほぼ毎回出てきますが、いずれも１年生らしい内容になっています。

ちょっとかわいくて、おしゃまな Junie B.Jones ちゃん。

First Grader になってから、さらに大活躍です（第４６巻がウチにあります）。
第１巻と第１８巻は、外せないと思いますが、後は、何巻を読んでも大丈夫です。

学園モノは、ご自身のお気に入りの主人公のものを読まれれば良いのですが、彼女の物語は、お気に入り第一候補に挙げても良いと思います。
読んだ巻の範囲内の感想ですが、毎回、けっこう、意外性のある物語なんですね、コレ。

あなたも、ちょっと昔に戻って、Junie B.Jones ちゃんと一緒に、ちょっと面白い学園生活を送ってみませんか？

幼稚園の子が主人公だったものが、
小学校に上がるってパターンは珍しいような？
日本だと、だいたいその学年のままですよね。

学校生活はいろいろなイベントや出来事があるので、
表現もいろいろ出てきそうですね。

マチャさま、ご指摘のとおりです。
まあ、小学１年からはそれほど動いていない気がするのですが、幼稚園は少し世界が小さすぎたのでしょうか。

児童小説としては、
だいたい、小学３年～５年で固定しているのが、多いと思います。学園生活は、いろいろあって、読んでいる方も、思いいれとかがあるので、舞台設定としては、好適で、読むほうも楽しいですね。
学園物のシリーズは、どれも根強い人気を保っている気がします。
なお、少しづつ時間が経つのもありますが、それでも、１０巻で１年とかそういうスローな感じです。

数は少ないですが、順々に上がってゆくシリーズもあります。スイートバレイ・ツインズは、小・中・高・大学と育ち、ナンシードロウお嬢様も成年まじかになりました。

でも、本を集める、読む方としては、これはこれで面白いのですが、実際、困るんですね。
順に上がられると。
全部そろえていかないと、経過を追えなくなります。
ヌケがあると、非常に気になります。深みにハマリますね。

まあ、よく作家の方は思いつくものです。絶妙な設定を
ですね。墓場の真ん中に学校があったり、先生がバンパイアとかそんな人ばっかりだったり。

でも、フツウのコで、それなりにフツウの子供でも、学園生活は、物語の宝庫ですね。
けっこう学園モノは集めてしまいます。
実にサイフが・・・。
